Join Kate Tatum as she demonstrates how to get a botanical print on fabric, explaining the process using mordanted silk, foraged foliage and an iron blanket. Botanical printing is much like cooking; there are recipes, the right ingredients, alchemy and craft.
There will be a presto-magic moment when instead of steaming our bundle for 2-3 hours, Kate will share a pre-steamed bundle ready to unroll, using similar leaves and petals as the one made that day.
It’s always a surprise when you see the transformation of the natural plant acids and tannins react to the iron and steam. The unrolling, or the reveal, is the most fun.
